What is C.D.W.?

As the name implies, it waives
the Collision Damage
responsibility of the driver towards
damages sustained to the car in case of
an accident or vandalism. I have to
emphasise the word accident because it
cannot cover anything if the driver hit
a tree because he/she was drunk or if
the car is driven into a lake because
they wanted to see if it floats.
CDW
is NOT insurance - it merely
frees the renter from paying for certain
damages to the rental car in the event
of an accident. |

Car hire
insurance will
cover (without any extra payments) third
party damages and passenger liability.
Third party means that you will be
liable for the damage of the car
irrespective of the amount. If you are
involved in an accident where the car
you are driving is a total loss, you
will be liable to pay for a brand new
car for the owners. |
 |
When CDW is included in the
rates, it does not mean that the damages in case
of accident or vandalism are waived. It merely means that
the excess amount you will be responsible for is
lowered to anything 'between' £150.00 to
£5000.00 depending on the type of vehicle you
rent. The proper wording for this insurance is
CDR
-
Collision
Damage
Reduction.
Because CDW sounds better to a prospective
client, it is more widely used by Car Rental
companies.
